Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of caches placed by New Mexico Geocachers in a cooperative effort with New Mexico State Parks (NMSP) to celebrate New Mexico State Parks 75th Anniversary. A cache has been placed in each of the 34 state parks around New Mexico.

3,800 surface-acres provide plenty of room for boating, water-skiing and fishing, plus lakeside campsites. The park is also an excellent base camp for visiting area attractions, including Living Desert Zoo & Gardens State Park and Carlsbad Caverns National Park.

Be sure to check the following points of interest while you are there.

* Track Trail – This interpretive trail runs between Limestone Campground and the Park Visitor Center providing an opportunity to experience the Chihuahuan desert in its natural environment. The trail provides information on many of the animals common to Southeast New Mexico.

* East Side Overlook – The overlook is located in the East Side Day Use Area and provides an opportunity to experience breath taking sunsets overlooking the lake with the foothills of the Guadalupe Mountains as a picturesque backdrop.

* Hike to the Dam - Just a short hike will allow visitors the opportunity to walk out on Brantley Dam and view the largest water body in Southeast New Mexico.

Since this cache is located within the State Park system, a Day Use or Annual Pass, which can be obtained from any State Park, will be required.

If you see any of the Park's staff while you are there, be sure to let them know you are a Geocacher.

Placed with permission.
