This cache is part of a series of caches placed by New Mexico
Geocachers in a cooperative effort with New Mexico State Parks
(NMSP) to celebrate New Mexico State Parks 75th Anniversary. A
cache has been placed in each of the 34 state parks around New
Mexico.
Nestled among towering pines near the Santa Fe ski area, this is
an ideal spot for picnics and hikes, winter sledding and
cross-country skiing. The park’s historic lodge is available for
special events and weddings.
Be sure to check the following points of interest while you are
there.
* The Hyde Park Lodge is New Mexico’s first ski-areas. The tow/
lift shack which housed a 500 horse power Cadillac engine was used
to lift skiers up its ski runs.
* This southern most chain of the Rocky Mountains was named
“Sangre De Cristos” by Spanish explorer’s in the 1540’s. Translated
into “blood of Christ,” this somber name is derived from the
reddish hue the mountains take on at sunrise and sunset.
* The Girl Scout Nature Trail, a half-mile marked trail, with
signs to identify various plants, trees and wildflowers is found
halfway between the entrance and exit of the park, off State Road
475 on the Northwest side, easily identified by a placque.
Since this cache is located within the State Park system, a Day
Use or Annual Pass, which can be obtained from any State Park, will
be required.
If you see any of the Park's staff while you are there, be sure
to let them know you are a Geocacher.
Placed with permission.
