This cache is part of a series of caches placed by New Mexico
Geocachers in a cooperative effort with New Mexico State Parks
(NMSP) to celebrate New Mexico State Parks 75th Anniversary. A
cache has been placed in each of the 34 state parks around New
Mexico.
A day-use park along the banks of the southern Rio Grande,
showcasing birds of the bosque, trails, educational and
interpretive programs and a visitor center.
Be sure to check the following points of interest while you are
there.
* The visitor center complex is built in a southern New Mexico
hacienda style, using state-of-the-art “green building” materials
to conserve energy, natural resources and reduce operating
costs.
* Four acres of new wetlands were established to compensate for
those lost during construction of the visitor center complex.
* Two ponds were built between 1999 and 2001 by the Southwest
Environmental Center and the City of Las Cruces, and provide
excellent bird watching opportunities.
Since this cache is located within the State Park system, a Day
Use or Annual Pass, which can be obtained from any State Park, will
be required.
If you see any of the Park's staff while you are there, be sure
to let them know you are a Geocacher.
Placed with permission.
