Mt. Ceres Base Camp Traditional Cache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Greatland Reviewer: Hello leeroyboy,

I have been going through caches that have multiple "DNF" (did not find) logs, which is often a sign that a cache is missing. Generally cachers avoid hunting a cache with many DNF logs, so it is a good idea for the Cache Owner to check the cache and either replace it or post a log to the cache page to tell fellow geocachers that the cache is still there, but they might need new eyeglasses. No action by the Cache Owner may result in a cache being archived to keep the cache from appearing in local Pocket Queries.

Please reenable the cache page after you have maintained your cache. To reenable the cache, go to the cache from your Account page on GC.com. Under "Admin Tools" in the upper right-hand corner, click "Enable," write your note and click "Submit log entry."

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Geocache Description:

A short hike with a rest spot in preparation for the final assault to Mt. Ceres and The Kawainui Vista Cache (GCHQYY)

A lot of Geocachers who've done this hike have commented on the steepness of this hike. It's a real heart-pounder and leg-burner. There comes a point where I need not just a spot to catch my breath but literally have to sit awhile and rest. Thus the origin of The Base Camp.

Park along the Dump Road, aptly named for the trash that accumulates along it. Park at N 21 23.341 W 157 45.812 Walk a few hundred yards to the trailhead which starts at: N 21 23.302 W 157 45.827 Follow the trail through a car graveyard. As a rule, where the trail/road divides, take the left fork that leads uphill. There will be several of those junctions.

The 1st overview is at N 21 23.205 W 157 45.842 Enjoy the view for a moment and then begin the trek up a mogul hill that would make Bode Miller proud.

Leave the road at: N 21 23.134 W 157 45.960 Follow the trail upward to the Base Camp. As I went up to place the cache I disturbed a wild sow and her 3 young'ins.

The cache is a small lock & lock with a log and pen. Also a FTF coin and a nice arrowhead. If the FTFer wants the arrowhead (it's a nice one) then leave the coin for the 2nd to find. Also a few trade items and a coupla TBs.

Mahalo to Ceres for leading us up to his cache. It's a great view. It just needed a 'little something' to make the effort just a little more meaningful.

A tip o' tha cap to RD for the L&Ls.
