This cache is part of a series of caches placed by New Mexico
Geocachers in a cooperative effort with New Mexico State Parks
(NMSP) to celebrate New Mexico State Parks 75th Anniversary. A
cache has been placed in each of the 34 state parks around New
Mexico.
From fishing to canoeing, wildlife watching, historical
exhibits, and more than 12 miles of hiking and mountain biking
trails, this park near the Colorado border features two lakes with
excellent trout fishing year-round. Visitors can also explore the
ruins of the historic coal-mining town of Sugarite.
Be sure to check the following points of interest while you are
there.
* Take a walk back in time and find out what life was like in an
early twentieth century coal camp.
* Take in scenic views in a 360 degree direction atop Little
Horse Mesa.
* Opportunities abound for viewing wildlife such as deer,
turkey, bear, and elk, along the park’s backcountry trails.
Since this cache is located within the State Park system, a Day
Use or Annual Pass, which can be obtained from any State Park, will
be required.
If you see any of the Park's staff while you are there, be sure
to let them know you are a Geocacher.
Placed with permission.
