Geocache Description:

This is a Wherigo cartridge, not a regular GC.

Please download the Wherigo Cartridge. Posted coordinates are for the parking.

FOR COLORADO USERS: You must be using the latest version of software. Download it here. More information about that version here.

This is the second Wherigo cache in TX and first in DFW. Please let me know if you have any trouble or suggestions. Feel free to call or text me at 817-999-2071. That number will also be listed on the start screen. Please keep in mind this is a proof of concept for Wherigo. Patience along with trial and error are a must! :-)

This Wherigo hide started with grand plans of taking people on a tour of the GCs in the area. As I've been testing the cartridge, it is clear that Wherigo is still in its infancy. I have removed the code to take you on a tour one stop at a time. The other GCs should still be visible on your screen; you will receive a message that one is nearby. I will add in functionality as the software bugs are fixed.

Location:
Hours are posted as 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Sign entering the trail states you aren't allowed to leave the trail and go on the sloped sides. At first glance it looks like you can't enter, don't be tricked!

Strategy:
When you arrive near the parking area, you will be asked if you want to visit all of the GCs near this area or just the new one. If you select all GCs, the nearby GCs will appear on the main screen. If you have found the existing ones before, you can skip them entirely. You will need follow the directions to an area that will contain the answer to a question that is needed to unlock the location of the cache. Each Zone contains a GC. When you enter a zone, the GC in the zone should appear in the Items You See section of the player.

To Claim This As a Find:
Method 1, Upload your Save Game (preferred)
Once you complete the cartridge make sure to save it in the Wherigo Player. When you return to the web site you can upload the saved file to the site which will unlock the cartridge. The saved file will have the name of the cartridge and end in *.GWS. This is the preferable way to complete your cartridge since your save game shows that you completed it. I have tested this and it works.

Method 2, Provide Completion Code From Cartridge
You will be asked when you leave Zone 03 if you found the GC. If you answer yes, you will be given a completion code. You can enter this code on wherigo.com. (I know people can lie and state they found the GC when they didn't. If someone wants to do that, fine with me.)

Method 3, Provide Code From Log
Until the bugs are resolved, there is a code on the front of the log that you can email me as proof you found it. I'll email you the code to enter on wherigo.com to unlock the cartridge.

Known Issues:
Visible Zones
PPC and Garmin Colorado are displaying zones differently. The Colorado won't show the zone or the items in the zone until the player is within the "Distance to Zone" setting, even if the Visible setting is true. The PPC will show a zone when the Visible setting is true regardless of your distance to the zone. You may see all zones and items (nearby) until a fix is released.
Reboots and Lockups
If you unit locks up or reboots, you should be able to continue from your current location. The code automatically assumes you want to visit all of the GCs. If your unit reboots/locksup after you answer the water height question, you will be prompted to answer the question again. Please keep a record of the answer.

FAQ:
Q01: What is Wherigo?
Wherigo is a toolset for creating and playing GPS-enabled adventures in the real world. Use GPS technology to guide you to physical locations and interact with virtual objects and characters. Learn more...

Q02: When you put the cartridge on your machine, do you just do a regular goto in Geocaching mode to start it or do you have to do something else?
On the Shortcuts menu, there is a Wherigo application. Any Wherigo cartridges you have loaded on your GPSr will appear in the list.

Q03: Saw this in your page "If you select all GCs, the nearby GCs will appear on the main screen. If you have found the existing ones before, you can skip them entirely." Can I do this Wherigo without finding the other caches in the area?
Due to several bugs in the Wherigo system, the grand tour of existing GCs is limited. If you select that you want to visit all of the GCs in the area, you will be able to see the zones and GCs from the main screen. If you select just to visit the new GC, the existing zones won’t appear even when you are near them. In either case, you are not forced to visit any zones besides the zone that contains the answer to the question and the zone that contains the new GC.

Q04: You said it takes less than an hour.
Just visiting the new GC shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes. Some of it will depend on how long it takes you to find the new GC once you arrive at the location. The walk out to the Vultures cache is about a half mile from the parking lot.

Q05: Do you suggest any of the play anywhere Wherigos to get familar with Wherigo?
The Play Anywhere cartridges will give you a sense of the system. However, just jumping in and trying the cartridge is the best way to learn. I got more out of testing my cartridges than the Play Anywhere ones. I don’t mind meeting anyone at the lake to give it a shot. Just need a little notice.
