Geocache Description:

One of a series of caches set amongst the Rodings. Collect all six in the series to get the info for a bonus cache.

The Rodings

This is one of a series of caches that will enable you to visit six of the eight Roding’s. Each cache contains a letter/value pair (e.g. Z = 8) that will enable you to find a bonus cache. The remaining two Beauchamp & Aythorpe can already be visited by doing existing caches GCVCYQ and GCRYP3

High Roding

High Roding is the most northerly of the Rodings. It is a reasonable sized village which seems to be mainly residential with a few pubs. There are a number of interesting old buildings on the main street. The village sign contains references to a building on the main street – see if you can find it – and High Roding Church .

Once you’ve done the cache, I suggest a visit to the nearby Gt Canfield where you can see a very impressive Motte and Bailey. The church at Gt Canfield dates from around 1150. The list of vicars above the entrance to the vestry shows the encumbents back to 1323. One of the most impressive architectural features is the fresco of Our Lady and the Holy Child which dates from 1250. The adjacent foliage decorations date from about 1200. Unfortunately, I can not guarantee that the church will be unlocked when you get there. Have a look here for some more interior photos.

The cache

You’re looking for a clip lock style plastic box.

Once you’ve done this cache, you can follow the footpaths to Aythorpe and White Roding where you will find other caches.

Initial cache contents a variety of party related goodies.
