Geo-Chromatic Progress was a large-scale painted mural
executed by Michael Mojher for the Birmingham Mural Project in
1978. The abstract mural, which consisted of oblique bands of
various colors and patterns, covers the upper side wall of a Morris
Avenue building as the 22nd Street Viaduct rises alongside it.
Here's one of those things I've seen all my life and never knew
that it had a name and was a mural. Check out the above link for
the article at www.bhamwiki.com. You can click on the "Birmingham
Mural Project" link off of that page to see other murals that were
painted as part of that project.
The cache is a 20 oz square lock-n-lock, camo'ed to match the
surroundings. Downtown needed some bigger caches for trade items,
so hopefully this one will stick around. If you can find a spot,
you can park right next to it on 22nd Street.
UPDATE: 4/8/09, the mural, which lasted over 30 years, was
painted over!!!!! GRRRR...
