Old Town
Hall

Number 3 in the series
is the Old Town Hall in Gravesend. The Gravesend Museum is located
within the Old Town Hall and occupies what was originally the
Town's Police Station. The Station was operational from 1836
through to 1940. The impressive entrance to the Town Hall was added
in 1836. Designed by Amon Henry Wilds, the architect who also
designed Harmer Street, it is said to based on the Temple of
Minerva in Athens. At the end of the 1880s, the market was
completely rebuilt in the form you see today. This building was
used as the Town Hall until 1968, when the current Civic Centre was
officially opened. This grand building went on to become home to
the Magistrates Courts and was finally closed in 2002. Today the
Museum holds a vast array of exhibits depicting the boroughs
interesting past and is operated by the Gravesend Historical
Society. On special dates you can also visit the Old Town Gaol from
inside the museum.
This one is being
released before no.2 owing to some production problems!
A straightforward
cache, you are looking for a 10m by 30mm(approx) Nano. Once in the
right place you should be able to hunt for the cache without
drawing too much attention to yourself.
There is parking
available in many spots around town, the closest being Market
Square off Queen St. at N 51° 26.612 E 000° 22.216.
The cache has a log
book but no pen so please bring one with you.
To make up for the
fact that these are only the dreaded micro type I'm hoping to make
them fairly novel, unfortunately, this will depend on my rather
limited imagination.
