Geocache Description:

An interesting walk around recently opened pathways

THE ABOVE CO-ORDS ARE NOT FOR THE CACHE. They are for the starting point of the clue trail.

Until late last year it wasn't possible to walk the area that this multi-cache is located in. Although the clues are in the grounds of Stainbrough Castle you do not need to pay. The given co-ords will take you to the start of a permissive path that meanders through the grounds & takes in previously inaccessible locations. There are spectacular views & as yet the area is not blighted by rubbish & litter.

Now on to the hunt.

The cache is located at N53 31.ABC W001 29.XYZ. This is NOT in the park grounds.

From the given start point, walk to the Duke at N53 31.046 W001 30.908.

1,X&A "What was the date & year of his demise?" = Oct X 174A

From the Duke, meander your way to N53 31.209 W001 30.426 where you will find Y&Z by answering the following questions:-

2, Y= "How many columns?" = Y4,
3, Z= "How many feet of stone?" = 19Z6

When you have answered these, exit through the gate at the far corner & make your way to N53 31.311 W001 30.072 Here you will find the last part of the co-ords.

4, For B&C, find out how many feet of Ashlar stone were used
the answer = 11B0C

You should now have ABC & XYZ. To get to the final location, backtrack up the path that you have just walked down, until you meet the corner of the wood, the permissive path branches off left into the wood & follows a stone wall. Follow this wall for 100m or so & you will join a public footpath which will take you across the field towards the final cache.
Happy hunting.
The castle & gardens are also worth a visit, although there is an entrance charge. During your walk, look out for the Herons nesting & the Deer. The paths are still being set out & established. Some of the signage is a bit iffy & the paths can be VERY muddy.
