Geocache Description:

This cache is placed in memory of Michael Steve Lawson, Sr. known to the geocaching community as coolslaw56. Steve was born April 24, 1950, in Ruston, Louisiana, and Steve died February 19, 2008, in West Monroe. Steve had a heart attack while raking leaves in his yard. Steve was ordained into the ministry in 1982 as a youth minister at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ruston. Steve was a great pianist, and I went to several of his concerts in Ruston; I especially loved his Christmas music concerts. Steve’s hobbies included model railroading, restoring old VWs, and geocaching. Steve started geocaching in December 2006. He had 259 finds in 7 states and 25 hides. To the best of my knowledge Steve’s last geocache finds were mine and Little’n’s. He found GC1712K and GC17129 in Ruston on February 9, 2008. On February 16 Steve looked for our cache GC1711W – Little League Martin Park in Ruston for the fourth time, but he didn’t find it. Steve e-mailed me and asked some questions about the cache, and I e-mailed him back with a hint on February 17. Steve replied that he would try the cache again soon. Steve asked some of his friends, younglass and bechwanl, to find the cache for him; and they did. Steve never got the chance to go back and find the cache because he died on February 19. This cache is a lock and lock hidden near Emmanuel Baptist Church because of Steve’s affiliation with this church. The cache is hidden outside Emmanuel's fence on the south side. There is parking close by.
