Van Buren Dunes sits on 120 acres of Ottawa County "Open Space Land," and sports the hilliest terrain of any of the county's open space lands. The dunes are covered in a quilt of red pine plantations with scattered pockets of deciduous forest. A nice hike in a beautiful area to a shaded place with a great view.
Pine Bowl Cache was first hidden Feb 11, 2001 by Doug111, making it Michigan's 3rd oldest active cache. Over time, clues required to find it disappeared, and the cache was lost. Winds and shifting sands uncovered the previously buried cache, and I found it during a MIGO Rescue Mission. The cache is now reopened for business in the original ammo can, with a new, less intrusive hide.

The dog kibble is gone, but rest of the old swag is still there, along with the original log book, some new toys, a few necessities, and a TB to seed the pot.

This area is open to the public from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. year 'round. However, during hunting season (Oct 1-Jan 1) the area is open to firearm and archery hunting, and is closed to activities such as using multi-billion dollar satellite systems to hunt for tupperware in the dunes.
Winter friendly for you nordic skiers, snowshoers and postholers!
Limited parking is available off Van Buren ST, and the cache is approximately .3 mile from there. Please take your/your team's picture with the enclosed camera. Mention in your log when the last frame has been shot, and I'll process and upload the pictures.
