Despite being quite an imposing building, Tenter Tower remains remarkably little known compared to its nearby neighbour Peel Tower. This is probably due to the fact that it is hidden from view owing to the lie of the land, even though it stands at a considerable height above Ramsbottom. The tentering tower was built for drying cloth which would be hung on hooks by the selvages, which is where the word "tenterhooks" comes from. The elaborate folly style façade of the building was designed to complement nearby structures.
Parking is very limited on the steep and narrow roads of Stubbins, so to avoid inconveniencing residents, it's best to park on Stubbins Vale Road near to N53°39.520' W002°19.053' and walk up Stubbins Street to East View in order to reach the footpath. The small quarry between East View and the Tower has now been developed into some allotments and gardens, much better than the old eyesore it used to be! The track can be followed beyond the stile to Tenter Tower, past a fishing lodge, to link up with the Rossendale Way and Buckden Wood paths.
The cache is a small cylinder containing log book, pencil, and very small swaps (not room for much!). Please re-hide it carefully.
