Original cache description for
GC4C26:
Cache is located near Slab Creek Reservoir. This reservoir is in
a particularly scenic, seldom visited canyon. The dam is used to
remove debris from the river (hence the cache title) and to
generate a small amount of hydro electric power for SMUD.
Although the cache is on the north side of the river, access to the
cache site is from the south. The road into the reservoir is not
marked and is easily missed.
The hike to the cache is a 1...it's the hike back up that gives
this a 3.
The cache is a 7.62mm ammo box. It contains typical cache
goodies. There is a camera in the cache. Please take a photo of
your visit.
We did not see any poison oak in the cache area, however, it was
early spring...
As the weather warms, beware of snakes in the cache area.
While in the cache area, check out the old diversion tunnel. It
is fenced, so do not enter, however if you stand near the entrance
(exit?), a wonderful cool breeze drifts out of the tunnel.
