Geocache Description:

Part of the Chorley Challenge - a cache in every Chorley village!

Abbey Village

The Parish of Withnell is in fact four villages, Abbey Village, Withnell Fold, Withnell Mill and Brinscall. I've grouped the Withnell's together. It would've been a shame to have had just one cache for Withnell parish, so I've hidden one in Abbey Village, one on Withnell Moor, and one in Brinscall.

According to City-Vistor, "From a thrilling short break to a romantic retreat or a business trip, when it comes to hotels in Abbey Village, there´s so many out there that the variety can sometimes be quite baffling." I think there's just one guest house in the village.

Rake Brook and Roddlesworth

The three reservoirs at Roddlesworth, which are linked to the Rivington system, lie in the valley of the River Roddlesworth surrounded by some of the finest woodland in Lancashire. The area offers a variety of routes for walking, cycling and horseriders, whilst remaining a valuable wildlife habitat.

Shadowing Darwen to the south is the Moor that local people fought over to gain public access in the late 19th Century, and still offers some challenging routes for the experienced walker.

Roddlesworth Information Centre is open throughout the year, offering visitors a permanent exhibition on the local and natural history of the area, ideas for other places to visit in the West Pennine Moors and an insight into the water business. Refreshments are also available.

Parking

Easy parking in the village itself. On the path in is the village pub - they clamp. There's nothing to stop you parking across the road like I did, though... next to the bus stop.
