Geocache Description:

A quick cache and dash on a road not generally travelled by anyone who is not a local or lost!

Dairsie Bridge is a mediaeval bridge over the river Eden about a ½ mile south of the village of Dairsie. The three arched structure was built c.1530 by Jeames Beaton, Archbishop of St Andrews and it is said to bear Beaton’s initials and coat of arms but we found these to be mainly illegible.

The bridge is 97 feet in length and, despite some Georgian additions and repairs, is largely original. Children might be interested in the design. Mediaeval bridges were built with low parapets to allow a horse drawn wagon to carry a load (i.e.hay) extending out further than the wheels. Two carts could not pass BUT people walking were saved the bother of having to go back. They stood in the passing places!

During fishing season this area is extremely popular with anglers and retrieving the cache will take a high degree of stealth!
