Swing into action Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions

Here’s a nice walk that should take a little less than an hour regardless of the direction from which you tackle it. If you travel from Hickling then park up outside the basin at N52 51.490 W00 58.522 taking great care to tie your car up to one of the many mooring bollards lest it float away (sorry local joke). The ‘Basin’ is the local name for the winding hole or open stretch of water that once allowed narrow boats to turn around and in this case unload goods at the wharf. There’s a very nice pub here called the Plough, which serves a range of real ales and real full fat/low food-miles crisps. The meals are said to be good as well.
Starting via Hickling also allows you to visit the ‘Belvoir Lodge Returns’ cache, which is a nice little spot in itself. You can of course visit via the opposite end of this stretch of canal by using the country lane at:
N52 51.691 W00 55.864 where there’s parking for a few cars.
‘Swing into action’ is a magnetic micro cache.
This is a great cache to visit on a bike as the canal towpath is a haven for cyclists and joggers who prefer well surfaced trails rather than roads. If you do go via Hickling, then also have a look at Clarke’s Bridge, it’s the brick built bridge you walk under on the way to the cache. There’s a plaque nearby that gives all sorts of wildlife details and mentions a hole in the bridge that’s used as a bat roosting site. It’s not an easy feature to pick out, but it’s there in the new render on the bridge underside.
When looking for the cache let’s just say it’s not residing over the water, so there’s no need to put non-swimmers or children in danger. If you want to know more about the Grantham Canal then visit www.granthamcanal.com which tells you most of what you might want to know about the canal and this stretch in particular.
