Geocache Description:

The monument is located on a field, 10 kms from Nagykorös, which is a double cross, located on three hills.

10 kms westwards from the town Nagykorös there is a large field, and a monument on it, which is in fact a double cross, made up on three hills. The English translation of the Hungarian text on the cross: "For the home, forever, 1001-2001". The year 1001 (or 1000) is considered to be the foundation of the Hungarian state.

The double cross first appeared in Byzantine in the 9th century. This symbol appeared on the coat of arms of the Hungairan kings first in the 13th century.

The three hills appeared in the 15th century, likely as a point of support (the Hungarian heraldics didn't like the floating imagery), but later it was considered to symbolize the following 3 mountains: Tátra, Mátra, Fátra.

From that time on these symbols appear on the coat of arms of Hungary, the exceptions are the coat of arms during the socialism. The current coat of arms of the Republic of Hungary also contains these symbols.

This symbol appears on the coat of arms of the Republic of Slovakia, too, but with the slavic red, white and blue colors.
