Geocache Description:

This cache is situated on the edge of Littleworth wood, with super views of Snowshill and its manor.

The village of Snowshill was the feudal property of Winchcombe Abbey.A large percentage of the communitys produce was paid to the Abbey in tithes, and a small manor was built in the village to administer their collection.
After the dissolution of Winchcombe Abbey in 1539,its estates were sold to private hands.Snowshill was briefly retained by King Henry VIII,and then given to his sixth queen,Catherine Parr. The existing manor built around 1500 was used as the administrative centre of the estate and remained in the Parr family for several generations.
In 1919 Snowshill was bought by Charles Wade, whose family were Bristol merchants who had amassed a fortune from sugar plantations in the West Indies. As a gentleman of leisure Wade was free to pursue his artistic and scholarly interests and travelled extensively, collecting items that took his interest.Consequently,Snowshill Manor houses an extraordinary range of objects, from Japanese armour to Victorian chamber pots.

Wade retired to the West Indies in 1951 and gave the Manor to the National Trust.
