Geocache Description:

Off the road, over the mud (stepping log added for additional comfort) and through the centre of the March dyke tree. A small but clear path. Gets very steep and slippery on one side - an undulating field on the other side. A walking stick or rope and a torch might help :-) It's now in a black bin bag.

Car parking is available at several places along the lane. A clip top sandwich box with standard letter, 'micro' log book, and swaps. Replace the detritus camouflage after finding the cache please. Sheep and cows in the field sometimes, but you don't need to go there. Steep on the Annick Water Side, but plenty of trees to hang onto if necessary. By the way, it's steep at the end bit.

The March Dyke tree figures in the Ayrshire's Special Trees collection (It's a beech (Fagus sylvatica). The low bank it is on is part of the 18th-century boundary or 'march' between two local farms.

Look out for fused branches on the tree. Walking through a tree is supposed to take you into the Fairy Realm (Elf-hame if your Scots) - a real sylvan tryst.

Look out for kingfishers, ravens, roe deer, buzzards, mink, treecreepers, tawny owls, foxes, etc.

See 'Lambroughton' and / or 'Chapeltoun' on the Wikipedia website for lots (and lots) about the area. I may have mentioned that it's steep at the end.
