OWNER MAINTENANCE REQUESTED PLEASE

Hi there Cache Owner,

It looks like this cache might need some attention, as one or more seekers have indicated there is some sort of issue. The recent logs may contain more details about what sort of issues are evident.

The cache has been temporarily disabled, so as to remove it from search listings and discourage people from visiting this location, until the issues/s can be addressed.

You do need to respond in some way within 14 days, so others know you are on top of it, as well as indicating exactly what is happening with this placement - please don't let a lack of communication scuttle this listing.

What you need to do:-

You have a number of choices so pick the one that applies from this handy list:-

  • Check On The Cache - once checked, place an Owner Maintenance log and then enable the cache.

  • Place A Write Note Log - indicating a date when you expect it will be restored. If you have a long term unavailability (where you don't have an actual date), please ensure you visit the page and post a note every 4 to 6 weeks, so as to keep everyone up to speed.

  • Adopt Out or Archive - depending on whether you want it kept or for it to disappear.

A full explanation for each of the above choices can be found at GEOCACHE MAINTENANCE on the Regional Policies page.

You might wonder what happens if you don't pick one of the above. Well, if the issue has not been addressed, or there is no acknowledgment as requested above, it will be assumed the cache has been abandoned and the cache will be de-listed (Archived) at the end of the 14 day period, without further recourse to the CO. [V]

It would be far better if you decide, so please do something before then. Please don't send an email but instead follow the information/advice posted above.

Thanks for your cooperation,

Geocache Description:

Established to service the Victorian gold fields, Cobb & Co quickly became the most successful company of its kind in the 19th Century, pioneering transport routes, delivering mail, gold and passengers throughout the country and contributing greatly to social growth and the expansion of pastoral settlement across Australia. Cobb & Co was set up in Melbourne, Victoria in 1853 by a small group of immigrant Americans - Freeman Cobb, John Murray Peck, John B Lamber and James Swanton – and originally was called the American Telegraph Line of Coaches. The company’s first passenger coach left Melbourne for Forest Creek (now Castlemaine) and Bendigo on 30 January 1854; the list of routes was expanded shortly thereafter to link the newer gold fields and settlements with the Victorian capital. Soon, mail contracts were awarded to the business and the Cobb & Co operated a gold escort, passenger and mail service based on reliable and efficient schedules. Near this cache you will find a disused and very dilapidated bridge, that we are told is called the "Cobb & Co Bridge." Can you imagine horse drawn coaches thundering across the bridge carrying strong boxes of gold? The bridge is on the old Adelaide road that is still a public road about 3km west of here. Back towards the road on the other side of the creek is the remains of the old changing stables for the coach horses. The bridge was connected till the 1970's when a fire burnt it off. The homestead opposite is 'Old Rosebrook Station' circa 1843 and the run was 100 square miles covering all the land up to Mount Zero. Thanks to our friends Robyn & Richard for showing us this landmark of a bygone era, and to redink for providing additional information. When logging your find on line, your feedback will be extremely useful - so please add something about your Geocaching experience in your log, even just the condition of the container would help. Logs that are blank, or only contain the words "sent from my mobile device" will be deleted.
