Thames Moorings - Runnymede Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Amberel: Called in this evening with a replacement log roll, but with the cache in my hand I questioned if this cache really should be here at all.

The SOLE reason for it is because I wanted a cache at every 24 hour mooring on "my" stretch of the river. But it's a high muggle area and the cache is only a nano - not the sort of cache I would like to do if I was looking for it.

I checked all around to see if there was any better hiding place, but there wasn't when I put the nano out and there still isn't now. The warehouse is surrounded by security cameras, the towpath is overlooked by private houses and the rowing club is only a few feet up the river.

So I decided to pull it, and brought the cache home with me.

Geocache Description:

A nano cache on the Thames Path.

The Thames Moorings series are a variation on the Thames Path series. The caches are close to the Thames Path and accessible to pedestrians. What differentiates them from others in the Thames Path series is that they are placed near public moorings for the floating equivalent of a "cache and dash", a sort of boating Motorway Mayhem.

This cache has been moved from its original position due to being vandalised by security guards, and should no longer be in view of their camera. It is further from the moored boats, which should make things easier, though it is now overlooked by a house. The hiding place is identical except it is lower down, making access more convenient, especially for wheelchair users.

This cache is very close to the river. Please take special care to supervise children.

There is limited free parking nearby, but the path to the cache gets muddy in wet weather. Alternatively there is chargeable parking at Runnymede Pleasure Ground - if there are children in the party you may want to spend some time there.

I have marked this cache as being wheelchair accessible. However, it is on grass and close to the river. Handicache rating H22111, rating given for approach from Pleasure Ground Car Park. If any wheelchair user feels the attribute is inappropriately set, please advise me.

Summary: The cache has no real merit as a standalone cache, but contributes to the Thames Path trail.

Nice walk? Yes, along the river.
Great views? Generally pleasant river views.
Interesting location? Runnymede nearby, but actual location of the cache, not really.
One of a series? Yes, Thames Moorings.
Cache trail? Yes, linear trail along Thames Path.
Unusual hide? No.
Cache and Dash? Could be, but normally done during a walk along the river.
Size? Nano. Not really practical to have anything larger at this location, I'm afraid.
