No visit to Stanly County would be complete without a trip to Morrow Mountain State Park. Located 6 miles east of Albemarle on the eastern edge of the county, the park lies at the foot of the Uwharrie Mountains, one of the oldest mountain ranges in the eastern United States.
Because the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation prohibits geocaches within any state park, we have located this micro just outside the park limits in hopes that the cache will entice you into discovering the wonders available to you within. Be sure to park in the abandoned church parking lot. Once there, you won't need to cross the road, but still be careful since the road is a winding one.
After finding the cache, we hope you'll be drawn into this wonderful state park. Walking and bridle trails, lake access for boating and fishing, canoe and boat rentals, swimming pool, camping facilities, picnicking areas, covered shelters, and a museum await you. Enjoy a visit to the homestead of Dr. Francis Kron, the first doctor to practice medicine in the Piedmont area of North Carolina.
By all means, visit the top of the mountain! On a personal note, the shelter here is where our church has its sunrise service every Easter, and watching the sun rise over that horizon never fails to give me goosebumps.
