Swan Pond is one of many kettle ponds in the area, left behind
when the last glacier retreated from the area. The sign along the
road describes the creation of the pond and explains the annual
natural cycle of this, and many other, kettle ponds.
The best time of year to visit is in early spring, March and
April, when the Tundra Swans are migrating back north. They often
stop at this pond for a rest before continuing their journey.
Tundra swans used to be called “whistling swan,” which referred not
to its voice, but to the sound made by the slow, powerful beating
of the bird’s wings in flight
Please don't disturb the birdhouse on the sign - it has nothing
to do with the cache.
