All Saints, South Merstham
The original All Saints Church was completed in 1898 to serve the community of South Merstham until it was destroyed on the night of 19th April 1941 by a parachute mine dropped from a German bomber. A small church was built by Canadian serviceman led by one of the chaplains, Captain Wolfendale. The church was consecrated on 25th April 1943, five weeks after building work commenced. The original church was rebuilt and was consecrated on 19th April 1952 and still stands today.
The little church became the parish hall and was christened Canada Hall in memory of the help received from the Canadian servicemen.
