Geocache Description:

A nano in a well known but very public location

The Orchard bungalow was built by Albert Cross on the orchard of the Park estate in Ruislip in 1905. The owners, Mr and Mrs Raymont made it a very popular venue with rustic tables and chairs scattered under the trees and teas being served. The bungalow was extended with another storey and was later sold and run as an hotel, albeit with a slightly dubious reputation as a destination for naughty weekends. From 1933 to about 1971 it was run as a high class restaurant by Ansells and is now a Beefeater steakhouse. In the Second World War it was used as accommodation for Polish airmen, who are remembered both at the nearby Polish War Memorial and also here. A steel sculpture of a Spitfire was unveiled here in the 1990's, but was so nice that it was stolen one night and never seen again. It has recently been replaced with a replica model of a Spitfire, better secured we hope. The Orchard is still a pub/restaurant and very popular.

The cache is not in or on the grounds, so unless you want a meal or a drink, there is no need to go wandering around. It is however a very busy area and retrieving the cache will make you feel very conspicuous, especially on nice days or busy times. It is a nano so please be careful when searching so as not to dislodge it and drop it.
