The Bath Fish Hatchery was built in 1893. It is located one mile from the Village of Bath. The hatchery rears lake trout, brown trout and rainbow trout. All of the lake trout and many of the rainbow trout reared here are obtained from fish collected from Seneca Lake and Cayuga Lake. Annual production of all species is about 86,000 pounds, or about 1 million fish!
The Hatchery is open daily from 8:00am - 3:45pm with free admission. The cache itself is located outside the entrance gates and may be obtained at any time.
We placed a cache here because of Joe's love of fishing and Lynn's fond memories of trips here as a child with her grandparents.
As you walk toward the cache you will see a natural spring on the right. The sign reads "This water supply is not public", however as a child she would frequently
come here with her grandparents to fill water jugs on the way to the cottage. It was the best tasting water. (Many people still get water here today, at their own risk.)
We have visited here on several occasions with our children because they love to feed the thousands of fish in the hatchery tanks. There is also an indoor exhibit and information is available. There is a display pond near the parking area along with several picnic tables.
You are looking for a small cylinder shaped container approx. 4 inches long. Bring your own pen. This cache is too small for trade items. Enjoy!
