searching_simpsons: Archiving as this cache location is ripe for containers being muggled. Since I did not choose the original location and I was just maintaining, I will archive this location.

Geocache Description:

This cache was placed as part of the Menard County Trails & Greenways and the Central Illinois Geocaching Association's first Lincoln's Cache Event.

You are looking for a small round camo'ed plastic container.

In 1828 John Cameron purchased the property where New Salem was later to be laid out. In that same year, Cameron and his uncle, James Rutledge, petitioned the state legislature for, and received, permission to dam the Sangamon River for the purpose of powering a mill. By the next year the mill was running. On Sept. 29, 1832, Cameron offered the mill for sale. Jacob Bale bought the mill and operated it with his son Hardin until 1844, when Jacob died. It was then bought by Jacob’s brother and operated until 1853, when the mill was torn down and replaced with a new one. In 1940 the Civilian Conservation Corps reconstructed the mill. Since that time, the river has changed its course, and is now a considerable distance to the east.
