Geocache Description:

The cache is on the Square Dance Center property and is placed with their permission. You cannot get to it from the interstate side of the fence. You may park in the centers parking area. This is not a webcam cache. The camera, barbed wire and fence you may or may not notice during your hunt are there because this last year someone stole the copper coils of the HVAC units. The cache is not inside the HVAC fenced area. BYOP.

The building originally belonged to the Knoxville Rod and Bearing Co.and barely escaped demolition when the Interstate was rebuilt for the Worlds Fair in 1982. It was a warehouse for about 10 years. Then in the spring of 1991, it was purchased and remodeled by member square dancers and named The Square Dance Center. It is currently privately owned by the square dancers thru Square Dance Inc and is operated as a non-profit. Square dancing and Round dancing are both taught almost every night of the week. On most Friday and Saturday nights there is a square dance scheduled with round and line dancing between square dance tips. There is always lots of home cooked food to eat and fellowship in the kitchen-dining area during the dances. Both the upper and lower dance halls feature floating wood floors for dancing comfort. Most classes begin at 7:00 pm during the week and dances usually begin at 8:00 pm on the weekends. You do not have to wear matching outfits or short dresses with crinoline to participate. Dancing and classes are open to every one of all ages and everyone is welcome to come. If you have an interest in square or round dancing you may call the center at (865) 521-6990.
