Geocache Description:

This is the first offering of a GPS/Geocaching program in the Pontiac area. The posted coordinates are for the Pontiac Library. The program is being offered by the Pontiac Library System, on May 3, 2008 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm with a lunch break followed by some beginning geocaching in a local park for those who are interested. Those persons that are interested should register at the Pontiac Library, there is no registration fee. For more information call the library at 815-844-7229.

The program is designed for beginners through intermediate people who have an interest in geocaching, but does not know much or anything about geocaching. All person can pick up new information and hints to this new high tech hobby. The program will cover the history of geocaching, explain what geocaching is all about, how to get started, how to use your GPS, navigating the Geocaching.com website, examples of the many different types of geocaches, and many more helpful insights to geocaching. There will also be a 40 minute movie shown which was produced by Geocaching .com.

Some refreshments will be provided during the class but lunch will not be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own sack lunch or visit local restaurants nearby, after the class and before the actual cache hunting in the park.

Dress appropriately for the expected weather for the day and be aware that some areas in the park may be muddy and wet of rain has preceded the event.

Useful items to bring to the class would be: a pencil and paper, a GPS and instruction book if you have one and a laptop computer if you have one, and a desire to learn about geocaching. There will be a limited number of GPS units to share with students.

If anyone wants advice ahead of time on what and where to purchase a GPS contact Gary by email bgm1971.1@gmail.com.
