Geocache Description:

Very simple cache along a level walk beside a river crossing fields that can be muddy. A few stiles to navigate and the fields sometimes have livestock in them. Just under a mile from parking to cache.

So easy you probably wont need a gpsr for this one. Just follow the river from the parking co-ords to the obvious cache location.
Parking is near the bridge over the river Towy. I have taken to walking along this path on pleasant evenings to work off my tea so have placed a cache here as an added excuse for the walk (as if I needed one) as I can now claim I'm doing cache maintenance.
Bring a camera and/or binoculars as I have seen a variety of wildlife while walking here, sheep, horses, rabbits, herons, swans and fishermen!?
Nothing stressful or hard about ths cache. Just an excuse to go for a short quiet walk on a nice summers evening.

In the field just before the cache , before you climb the last stile, if you look north, away from the river you will see an embankment at the edge of the field. This is what remains of the railway line that once ran east from here to the line at Fairfach near Llandeilo. It only closed in the 1960's so its surprisong how quickly its mark has been reduced to its present state. The line passed through and stopped in Nantgaredig, near where the Railway Hotel is. If you pop in there for a drink on a weekend you may have the misfortune of bumping into the Drunk Like Me TB!!!

Also need to add a point about the wooden bridge near the cache....there is in fact a proper stone bridge further back along the stream which is far safer than the wooden thing with the debris on...which I dont think is actually a bridge. It is a bit misleading but the footpath crosses the stream via the stone bridge a few yards along the stream to the right of this wooden one.

At the cache location if you look north you will see the hill, Pen-yr-allt. Look west and you will see Merlin's Hill (and another cache). Look east and on a clear day you will see the village of Nantgaredig and beyond that a hill on which can be seen Paxton's Tower (and another cache).
A free drink from me also, if anyone can email me a picture of the nearby 'benchmarks'.
Hope you enjoy.

Jon Leyshon

NB this cache was placed on the spur of the moment so initially only holds things I found in the boot of my car, a few paperbacks and such...one of which I think is written about the village of Nantgaredig... but as its so close to my home I will be upgrading the contents soon and will be able to restock it on a regular basis.
