Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge - Portland Parks Bureau (click link above for more info)
This is a great location for some wandering in the wilderness (at least considering that it's right inside the city). Wear hiking shoes and give yourself some time for the hike in/out, and to explore/enjoy. (Click on the image links below for a trail map.)
Best access for parking is either in the small lot along S.E. Milwaukie ave. at Mitchell st., or from the Oaks Amusement Park parking lot. You'll be using the fishing trails along the river, best accessed from the big jogger/bicycle path where the map shows the "Art Installation".
This cache is a physical challenge - so a light warning is warranted. Formal ninja training is not required, at all, but access to both sites requires a bit of balance and agility.
The initial coordinates are not very far from the hide itself. Within a few minutes walk.
Go to the initial coordinates and find a benchmark medallion (I couldn't find it listed anywhere, either on this site or on the NGS site, which is kind of cool!)... You'll need to 'walk the plank' to access it, so be careful of your footing here!
On the medallion, find the No. stamped into it. SUBTRACT that number from the decimal minutes of the following dummy coordinate, for the true NORTH coordinate of the hide location:
N 45 29.271
Near the benchmark is a large metal City of Portland sign. On the sign is a big black number in the corner. SUBTRACT that number from the decimal minutes of the following dummy coordinate, for the true WEST coordinate of the hide location:
W 122 39.218
At the hide location, which is nearby several (more 'natural') planks that you can walk (if you feel daring - but be careful!), you'll be looking for a 5" tall plastic jar that is externally marked as a geocache. It contains a logsheet but no pen.
I stumbled across this area on a ramble and really enjoyed it, hence the cache. I hope you enjoy it too!
