An area of some 180 acres of woodland, meadows and wetland, dedicated for the quiet enjoyment of the countryside by the public, the Severn Valley Country Park spans both sides of the River Severn between the villages of Highley and Alveley. The area was once the site of the Highley and Alveley Collieries which ceased production in 1969 after almost a hundred years of mining. In the late 1980s the area was reclaimed to create the country park. As well as reclaimed areas the park has large areas of ancient woodland and unimproved meadows, and the park attracts an increasing variety of wildlife.
