The cache is not located exactly at the given location. Due to high
& low tides changing the river elevation, typical peek river
flow during spring run-off and other mysterious factors the cache
location may vary between 0 and 1640 fathoms away from the posted
coordinates.
Douglas Island Tunnel, South Entrance
This is the Surrey Side of the Douglas Island Tunnel.
Information about this tunnel can be found on the cache page for
the north entrance
Douglas Tunnel by Joseph Williamson.
Unfortunately this end of the tunnel has suffered. Because of
development and the construction of the rail yard has shifted the
shoreline over the last 100 years.
I used a small personal floatation device to place a floating
buoy over the tunnel entrance just off shore. You will have to
cross private rail Lands (watch out for the guard dogs), crawl
across some log booms as well as avoid the discarded fishing lines,
nets and hooks to get to the cache location.
Note: This cache is not for the faint of heart. I had to come to
terms with my own mortality when I somehow ended up between a tug
boat and the barge it was pulling! That fishing wader I was in does
not move too fast!
Once you arrive at the buoy, you can pull up the cache container
and sign the log.
