Geocache Description:

The early settlers of Butler County, Alabama, for the most part came from Virginia, the Carolinas, Kentucky, Tennessee & Georgia.

Land could be purchased at the nearest Government Land office for $.50 an acre. It was into this land that the Reverend Pitt S. Milner, a Baptist Minister, from Pike County, Georgia, came in the year 1855. He settled roughly sixteen miles South of Greenville, Alabama.

He established a Post Office in the same year, naming it Georgiana, in honor of his native State of Georgia and his small daughter Anna.

In 1886, the Gazeteer of Alabama Businesses, describes Georgiana as “a lively place of some 300 inhabitants on the Mobile & Montgomery Division of the L & N Railroad, 16 miles South of Greenville, 126 miles from Mobile and 60 miles from Montgomery.”

The house built by the founder of Georgiana, Pitt Milner, still sits high atop of what is now called “Boone Hill.” The Milner-Vinson-Boone House sits in solitary splendor among aging magnolias and giant Japonica bushes and is located just down the street from where cache is located. House is a private residence and permission has not been given by owners for visits.

Nearby is Milner Cemetery where Rev. Milner and his wife are buried, along with their child, Anna, who, it is said, drowned in early childhood and whose legacy to the town was her name.

This cache is placed with permission of the mayor.
It has a FTF coin and other interesting items.
