Geocache Description:

Dirt road off of I-17 south. Altitude at cache 4899, bottom of Rattlesnake Canyon at Dry Beaver Creek gaging station and 30' waterfall.

Not a walk in the park. Creek must be crossed to get to cache location so it may not be accessible during run-off periods such as the spring thaw. However, this cache area is coolest with water flowing over waterfall. Take Stoneman Lake Exit off of I-17 and take unmarked dirt road, FR 647. The road is in good shape, gray gravel surface, except for a tough spot thru a wash shortly after entering. Follow road to where it bears right and changes from gravel to dirt and rocks. Take this road as far as you and your vehicle like, park and start hiking along the road. When you come to a big clearing/cul de sac at the end of the road look for the trail into the canyon. The walls of the canyon are are sheer and composed of successive layers of columnar-jointed basalt. Ammo can containing salt and pepper shaker set, fake $50 bill, coin, DVD signal mirror for your backpack, Mardi Gras beads and keychain, pen and stand, metal bird, "Fields of Fuel" movie pin (recommended viewing), knife sharpener, cell phone cover and "Kokopelli" TB.
