On the spine of the Southern Ruahine Leatherwood zone
The cache is a 1L plastic container hidden amongst the leatherwood not far from Matanginui.
This cache was placed after having a delightful cup of tea brewed on a Penny stove and taking in the views of Mt Ruapehu and Dannievirke. The previously burnned and charred area near the sign post was a shame to see, however, we were able to use the stove in that area to prevent any chance of further burning.
We started from the Oruakiritaki Stream, hiked up to the cache location and down to Kumeti Rd end in just under 6 hours (going at a fairly quick pace).
If you are tall, you should be able to find the cache with one foot still on the track...
