The above coordinates are for the trailhead. You will take the trail going up the hill from the lower lot or down from the upper lot. They are now charging $4.00 to park in the lower lot but the upper lot trailhead is still free. Upper lot trailhead coordinates. 34.09.458 x 084.04.313
After being closed for over a year the Buford Dam Power House Park is now open.
Park hours are from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm
To find this cache, park at the upper or lower coordinates and proceed to the trail head. Take the trail until you reach the top observation post and standing in the middle shoot a bearing of 67 degrees and 249 feet and you will be at the cache.
A little history about the Dam and Lake.
Ground breaking was started for the site on March 1st 1950.
Construction price tag for the Dam was 19 million with an additional 45 million for land acquisition.
On Feb 1st 1956 the gates of the Power House were closed, starting the long process of filling the 38,000 acre reservoir.
It took three years for the Lake to reach it's normal elevation of 1070 feet above sea level which in did on May 25th 1959.
You will have some great view of the river and power house at this location. Also keep your eyes open for the goats they use to keep the grass cut on the steep slopes.
