Conant Memorial Park Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dosido: Finally got a chance to get out and check on this one. While the kids played at the park, I checked on the cache. Indeed, it was iced up pretty good - still not sure how it got all wet, as the cache container is in good shape. At any rate, I didn't bring anything to replace it with, we're going to archive this one, and open the area up to a new cache!

Geocache Description:

A large ammo can hidden in Conant Memorial Park, Southampton, MA

The Cache
This cache was hidden in Conant Memorial Park so that visitors to the Welcome to Geocaching event could go on a cache hunt after the presentation.

Conant Memorial Park
Harold W. and Dorothy P. Conant gave 14 acres and a $20,000 endowment to the town in 1959 to create the park. In 1964, the park and a marker stone donated by Edward Searle were dedicated.

The Lions Club built the ballfields and the picnic pavilion for Old Home Days and other gatherings. The Woman's Club and the Mothers' Club have always provided plantings and playground equipment. A flower and shrub island in the center of the East Street entranceway is made from stones taken from old cellar holes.

A skating rink was originally next to the pavilion, but has been gone for some 35 years. The tennis courts were built in 1973 and have recently been renovated.

The Cache Particulars
The cache is now a medium sized lock'n'lock, and can be accessed from either the Southampton Library parking lot, or the Conant Memorial Park parking area.

Please use stealth, as depending upon the time and day you choose to seek this cache, you may find some company playing at the park.

The cache has the usual swag, and we've included an unactivated geocoin for the FTF.

An Interesting Note
Know of someone who is interested in geocaching, but doesn't have a GPSr? After the Welcome to Geocaching talk at the library on April 26th, 2008, the library will be offering the availability of checking out a GPSr for geocaching! This is the first time I've ever heard of this being offered!

Good Luck!
