Buchanan Castle was built in 1855 for the 4th Duke of Montrose. Despite the name, no Buchanans ever lived in the castle.
In the 1930s it had a brief life as a hotel before being converted to use as a military hospital during the Second World War. Rudolph Hess was brought here to be treated after being captured when his plane crashed near Eaglesham in May 1941.
In 1955 the roof was removed to avoid paying taxes on the property and it has been left to deteriorate. However it is still a beautiful building.

Sadly the castle is now in a dangerous state and is fenced off for public safety. This cache does not require you to cross the fence into the castle or the area immediately surrounding it.
The warnings are there for a reason, ignore them at your own risk and against the cache owners advice.
