Geocache Description:

Nice wooded area in Charleswood, rubber boots in the spring or fall!

Cache is a camo'ed small click lock container with logbook, trading items. FTF gets a Tim Hortons free RUTRTW donut.

Homer, Snidely Whiplash's sidekick (check out cache CPWZ2), decided to try his own hand at making his first Winnipeg cache harder to find. He would hide it in a spot near the same longitude as his STARTing point.

His plan was to walk on at the TransCanadaTrail and find a good spot from there. Things went awry when, while reading the TCT sign (N49 50.831/W97 18.920) just south of Cullen in Charleswood, he slipped and bonked his noggin hard enough that he reversed his sense of direction. Of course he did not know this at the time, only when he tried in vain to find his cache the next day. So...

After getting up from his fall and waiting for the mental stars to quit spinning, Homer began to walk to the west. He came upon a couple of small trails crossing the TCT so midway between the little paths he used his gps to "mark" here as START (N49 50.821/W 97 18.774). He then turned north and began to walk between some small bushes and the prairie ahead on the east. This was too much in the open and just maybe Dudley Do-Right was watching so Homer turned west into the woods until he found a little path. Aha, he thought, I'll follow this and Dudley will never see me
as I proceed north. (a little while later) But what's this, a little clearing up ahead with a very faint race track? Maybe it's Dudley's secret training area!

Homer stopped and checked his gps and discovered he was on an old track from N49 50.809/W 97 18.491 to N49 50.597/W97 18.838 So Homer crept east off the trail staying on this old track and stealthily moved along until he crossed his original START longitude. No place to hide a cache here! He decided to back up 6 bush steps and hide his cache right there, just in case. He retraced his steps using his GPS
breadcrumbs. Of course the next day when Homer went to find his cache the breadcrumbs had been deleted and he had no luck because his direction sense was now ok.

(The cache is not at the posted coordinates.)
