Geocache Description:

A magnetic keyholder micro cache in Allan, SK. Please bring your own pen. There can be high muggle traffic here as well as observant muggle neighbours so be stealthy. Also short cachers may want to bring a tall friend to reach this cache.

The small German Catholic colony of St. Aloysius developed around the town of Allan in 1903-1907. In 1914 plans were drawn up for a church building. In 1915 building began with the construction of the basement. A temporary roof was added to the basement & services were held in this 'emergency' chapel until October 1922 when the first mass was celebrated in the new church. The cornerstone found in the front south facing corner of the building contains a small box which holds the official document written in Latin stating that this cornerstone was blessed by Bishop Prud'homme on Sept. 3rd, 1922. Another paper is in the box with the signatures of 18 witnesses to the cornerstone blessing. The cornerstone is marked with 1922. Over the years the church has undergone several changes. July of 1999 marked the change from the Oblate era to a parish under diocesan management. In 2000 the Knights of Columbus built a free standing bell tower to mount the church bell. The bell tower is dedicated to the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and the men who served as pastors to recognize their century of service to the parish and community. It is also dedicated to the Ursaline Nuns who served the parish and community from 1927-1983.
