Gabrielle and I placed this cache to celebrate our five year
anniversary in the geocaching world. It was April 8th, 2003 when we
first logged into both Geocaching and the Michigan Geocaching
Organization.
We found our very first cache here in this same preserve, close
to where the
West Lake Bog Earthcache is today. At the time she was only
four years old yet to this day she can describe that cache in great
detail. She talks of the spider that jumped off the decon container
when I sat it on the boardwalk. She can even remember the little
plastic dinosaur that she wanted...of course since we had no trade
items it cost Dad a dollar.
With that we wanted to place another kid friendly cache which is
what you'll be hunting for. Shouldn't take long as its an easy
find, just a short walk from the parking area, nestled under a
small stand of pines. Step inside and you'll find this one in the
last place you look...which will probably be your first too.
There shouldn't be any problems with spur trails here as the
terrain goes from mowed grass straight into a bed of pine needles.
Muggles shouldn't be a problem either but it is close to the
entrance and road. Bring some kids along and you won't need to
worry about muggles as they won't give you a second glance!
We have no prize for the first to find this time but Gabrielle
says the first finder who is 10 years old or under will earn a
brand new unactivated travel slug to create their own traveler.
Only stipulation is they will have to arrange to pick the slug up
at the
South Portage Bug Motel across the street. We'll also put their
name up in lights on the cache page for as long as this cache
remains active.
Congratulations to Leah for
winning the Travel Slug prize!
We wish it many years of safe travels!
