Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This cache is dedicated to the Pioneers of the Condie
District including Robert and Agnus Condie, for whom
Condie Railway Station was named in 1887. There use to be
two grain elevators (United Grain Growers Ltd & Saskatchewan
Wheat Pool) that have been demolished like many other elevators on
the Western prairies. All that is left of Condie Station site is
the house that you could see about mile southwest of here.
As you walk down the trail from the parking lot to the cache, you
will come across a cairn that was erected in honor of the Pioneer
settlers. Robert Condie came west in 1882 and settled in this
district about half a mile south of the railway station. He married
Agnus McArthur in 1887. The Condie's home was known as "Half-Way
House" for the many travellers who went and came from Regina. In
keeping with the famous hospitality of the Pioneers, their
dauntless spirit will be remembered with gratitude.
The cache is located in the Conde Game Refuge area. Great
place to spend a day to hike on the trails and observe wild life.
Enjoy a brief rest stop when travelling #11 highway (use Exit "A")
and see all the wild life in this area. The deer, beaver, muskrats,
ducks, geese, birds, and rabbits roam this area, and yes, if
you’re lucky, you may even see pheasants.
This Refuge area is "closed from sunset to
sunrise".
You will be looking for a camoed diabetes
canister.
All good cachers will always carry a
writing implement and also replace the cache "exactly" where they
found it!
