Geocache Description:

Before, the name told it all. Now, the name tells you something, but not all. We kept it for nostalgia. The cache is virtual. It is in a public-use area. A word of warning: the map below does not tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Your GPS may not either.

The Dam Dune Cache is now a virtual site. Effective 1/1/24 new logging requirement. Standing at the posted coordinates, take a photograph of the dam with something in the photo having the date of your find. If multiple geocachers are present, each must use a different photo. Post the photo with your found it log.

The Dam Dune Cache originally was a square kitchen-storage container filled with Alabama travel brochures and a number of impulse-buy items from the grocery store: penlights, stickers, giant paper clips, rain bonnets, small games, etc. It was visited by some great cachers who took good care of it and traded some wonderful items. Thank you. We apparently barely got it out. There is excavation work going on at the "dune" on the other side of the hill from where the container was. Another 5 feet or so would have done it in. The contents and original log pages from this cache when it was a traditional site are now in the X Sisters cache about 43 miles slightly northwest of here on the Chief Ladiga Trail.

If you want to visit the dune, it is (was?) about 400' down the right side of the big field (N 33 15.247 W085 36.964). There were still pine trees on it on December 1, 2002.
