Quinta Mazatlan Multi-Cache
Bigguy In Texas: Thank you to all that came by to visit this cache in this WONDERFUL location.
I am archiving so that a new staff member (and fellow geocacher!) can hide her first cache. I look forward to revisiting this beautiful spot the next time I am in the area. Good luck!

Quinta Mazatlan is the McAllen Wing of the World Birding Center under the stewardship of the City of McAllen Parks & Recreation Department. Its mission is to preserve the 1930s adobe estate and the native plants and animals of the Rio Grande Valley, by providing a sanctuary for environmental education, eco-tourism and inspiration to people of all ages.
The legend of Quinta Mazatlan begins with an understanding of the name. The word “Quinta” in Spanish translates to a country house, villa or estate. When the owners began building the home in the 1930s, the area was surrounded by grapefruit orchards. The word “Mazatlan” has an ancient Indian translation in Mexico meaning “Land of the Deer”.
Quinta Mazatlan is one of the "Crown Jewels" of the World Birding Center of the Rio Grande Valley. The RGV has long been recognized as a world-class birding destination. And now with the creation of the World Birding Center, Texas Parks & Wildlife, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services, and nine Rio Grande Valley communities, plan to expand awareness about this ecological treasure along the state’s southern border.
There is a small fee ($2.00 for adults, $1.00 for children and seniors with children under 4 free) to enter Quinta Mazatlan but it is an experience you will not soon forget.
Please allow for ample time to wander around the grounds and the inside of one of the largest adobe homes in Texas. The staff inside the center is well aware of the cache placements and encourage questions. Please note that both stages are right on the trail or one or two steps away with no bushwacking required. Please stay on the trail except for the final.
As always please respect all wildlife, vegetation, and guests while looking for this cache.
