Set in the heart of the Savernake Forest, nice easy access, around 100ft from a path (should you find the right one)
The Savernake Forest has been carefully managed for over 950 years, with prime specimens of oak and some of the oldest trees in Europe. Its extreme age also makes it home to some of the rarest mushrooms and toadstools and, as a result, has been deemed an area of special scientific interest.
Between the end of the summer and the first frosts of winter, huge ranges of fungi can be seen coming out to play. If you’re lucky you might even find some edible ones…
However, if you are in any doubt leave the fungi in the ground. Many species when eaten will result in a long, lingering and painful death, with no known antidote…
The forest is a great place for a walk and has copious parking. It is free to roam for all and has a multitude of paths throughout it. The nearest place to park for this particular cache is N 51 23.358 W 001 39.639
This cache is a small lock‘n’lock box, big enough for small swops.
