Ickenham, St Giles'
Ickenham was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as “Tichenham”, and the first recorded priest was appointed in 1335. The earliest part of the church buildings date from the 14th century; several extensions have been added throughout the centuries to accommodate a growing population. The church and churchyard are well maintained and the church is open to visitors most mornings and, of course, for worship on Sundays and Thursdays and at other times on special occasions. Visit the church website at http://www.stgileschurch.co.uk/ The cache is NOT hidden in the churchyard or on church property, so you do not need to enter the churchyard to find the cache. However, do take the time to have a look around once you have found the cache. If you have more time, have a look around the village which has some interesting old buildings (the pump, the pubs, the almshouses and others). You might also like to try BikerKats' other caches in the area. There is a public car park behind the library in Community Close where the first half hour is free (you must obtain a ticket from the Pay & Display machine). Please bring a pen!
If anybody would like to expand this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
