Geocache Description:

This can be a high muggle area at certain times. Container changed to a camouflaged bison tube on October 21. 2021. After signing, please place the Rite in the Rain log into the container top first to prevent damage to the log and make it easier for each finder to retrieve. Do not over tighten as this damages the o-ring. Thank you.

As of January 25, 2010, this is now a camouflaged painted matchstick container and in a new place. Coordinates are an average of my readings. Bring your own writing implement. Please place back exactly as you found it.

Tommy Shaw was born in Montgomery in 1953. Early on he played with many local bands before moving away from Montgomery after high school. While playing with MS Funk in Chicago, Tommy was noticed by the manager of the band, Styx. In the mid 70’s, Tommy Shaw moved back to Montgomery to form the band, Harvest, with childhood friends Jimbo Jones, Tommy Beavers and Eddie Wohlford. They performed at a club known to the locals as “The Kove” that was in the nearby establishment. About six months after Harvest formed, one of the guitar players for Styx quit suddenly when the band was about to start a national tour. The manager remembered Tommy Shaw from the show in Chicago. The story goes that all they knew about Tommy was he was playing at a club in a bowling alley in Montgomery. Since there were only two bowling alleys in Montgomery at that time, it didn’t take long to find him. And as the saying goes, the rest is history.

Tommy Shaw was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame on February 22, 2008 at their awards banquet held here in Montgomery. Thanks to Vince for permission for this cache placement.

UPDATE: 05.09.08 I have spoken with the manager, Vince. He checked with all his employees and no one knows anything about cachers being approached. He feels that it was someone from the neighboring business even though the cache was on the property of the bowling alley. On his recommendation, I have moved the cache.
