Geocache Description:

An easy two part multi-cache. The first part is virtual, the final is a lock and lock container.

The listed coordinated will take you to an all wars memorial at the Veteran's Memorial Arena for men from the Binghamton area who served. To calculate the coordinates to the second and final stage you need to find my great uncle's name on the memorial.

Private First Class George Lazarek was my great uncle and a Marine who served in World War II. He was in the 4th Marine Regiment and fought in the Philippines until his entire regiment was taken prisoner by the Japanese in 1942. At this point the 4th officially ceased to exist until being reinstated with new Marines in 1944. Unfortunately George died as a prisoner of war while in the hands of the Japanese in one of their prison camps and never made it home.

When you've found his name on the memorial use these steps to get the coordinates for the final step in this cache.

N 42 04.AA2
W 75 54.BB6

AA = The number of names above George + 5.
BB = The number of names below George + 34.

The cache is a lock and lock container with room for small trade items. It's about 1.6 or so miles from part one, away from the hustle of downtown in a location with a few other nearby caches to find. It's about 100 feet off the trail and should be quite easy to find.

In this photo George is on the left.
